On the day – 10th of April 2020 – and time the 2020 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was meant to start, the new documentary celebrating the festival’s 20th anniversary has been published on Youtube.

April 10 was supposed to be the opening day of Coachella 2020 before it was postponed until October due to the COVID19 pandemic, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It also happens to mark 20 years since the festival began.

The documentary features the history of the festival through the main performances, behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with a number of artists, It highlights performances from Billie Eilish, Kanye West, Madonna, Bjork and many others.

Among several footages of the sets presented in the movie – some of them still unreleased – we find Billie Eilish, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Daft Punk, Madonna, Travis Scott, BLACKPINK, LCD Soundsystem e Rage Against the Machine.

“What makes Coachella such a fun subject and what makes it unique, is that it is a snapshot of popular culture on any given year,” Chris Perkel, who directed the documentary, told Billboard. “Because it has been able to stay completely contemporary and completely relevant over the entirety of these two decades.”

Perkel also said to Variety that he hopes the film can “provide kind of a vicarious experience” with the 2020 festival being postponed: “With all of us staying indoors, and under a lot of stress, we thought that might be more valuable than ever”.

Coachella 2020 has been rescheduled for Oct. 9-11 and Oct. 16-18, according to Billboard, but no one can say that for sure: in the meantime, enjoy the documentary… and dream about the next big event, where we’ll all celebrate music, freedom and health!
